Nigerian Police Establishes Complaint Response Unit

In its effort to bridge the communication gap between the Police and the public in reporting unprofessional conduct of Police Officers, the Police has created a Complaint Response Unit.

The new unit would use the existing communication technology in its operations for feedback necessities.

It was a media interactive session to explain the operations, duties and benefits of unit and to get media input before the official launch slated for the 13th of October.

CSP Abayomi Shongunle who is the Officer in-charge, explained that, the establishment of the unit was part of the Inspector General of Police’s strategic policing plan to use cutting edge technology such as smartphones and internet.

Measures to protect the identity of the complainant, detecting false information and ensure that complainants get justice.

He stressed that every report will be verified, investigated and feedback to the appropriate quarters. He assured that the posters and flyers will be in all police stations and would be in all three major Nigerian languages and pidgin English.
