House of Reps Resumes Debate on Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB)

The establishment of a Petroleum Technology Bureau and a Development Fund to support the people in oil producing Communities were some of the issues raised, when the House resumed Debate on the consideration of the recommendations of the Adhoc Committee on the Petroleum Industry Bill.

Law makers raised questions on the establishment of a Petroleum Technology Industry Bureau, the constitution of a board, gender concerns among other issues.

For more than three  hours, members reflected amendments on the recommendations on the declaration of state of emergency on the petroleum industry, the constitution of the board of Petroleum technology industry bureau and on the provision of development fund for the  host communities. Members considered 118 clauses before the suspension of further consideration of the report till the next legislative day.

The house also received the chairman of house committee on environment, Representative Uche Ekwunife’s report on a bill which seeks to establish the National agency for the great green wall.  Also the house received and adopted the conference committee report on a bill which seeks to eliminate violence from private and public lives prohibit all forms of violence against persons and to provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders by Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa
