IDP Celebrate Chrismas in Kuchigoro Abuja
New Kuchigoro one of the statelite settlements within Abuja the Nation’s capital is now playing host to about 600 internally displaced persons.Their quest for peace and a better life dominate their mood at their new during this period of Christmas.The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said that about 400,000 persons have been internally displaced in the troubled North-East. the information officer of the North-East zonal office of the agency, AbdulKadir Ibrahim, said the number of Internally Displaced Person in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states before the explosion of recent attacks in Gwoza and Doron-Baga stood at 360,462.Ibrahim further revealed that Borno alone had 183,031 IDPs, with Adamawa and Yobe recording 147,198 and 30,233.The spokesman, who revealed that this had overdrawn the agency which had to be prepared at all times to meet humanitarian crisis in the region, said “because of the magnitude of cases of areas affected by the insurgency and the numbers of IDPs, NEMA has trained volunteers and Emergency Management Vanguard who work with Red Cross to set up camps and to register internally displaced persons.
