Training in the Nigeria Power Sector

About fifteen billion naira is to be invested in developing infrastructure at the Permanent site of the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria NAPTIN. This was disclosed in Abuja by the Director – General of the Institute, Reuben Okeke when he paid a courtesy call on the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, Felix Atume. The Director – General said to meet government’s projection of 40, thousand megawatts by the year 2020, the Institute needs to turn out about one thousand, two hundred graduate engineers each year.

He however decried the abysmal performance of graduates being turned out of the Nation’s educational Institutions, adding that there is need to improve on the quality of engineering and technical education in the country. The Registrar Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Felix Atume, commended the efforts being made by the Federal government in the Power sector particularly infrastructural development. He also reiterated the need to review the engineering curriculum of the nation’s tertiary Institution in line with global best practice.
