First Lady Mourns Chinua Achebe

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has described the recent transition of the Late Literary Icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe as the end of a crucial era in the nation’s history. She recalled with pride, his illustrious career as a scholar who magnified the glory of Nigeria in the global community.

Dame Patience also paid tribute to Achebe as a social crusader whose scholarship often mainstreamed the socio-political conditions of the less privileged.  The First Lady commended the Late Icon for securing for himself and his fatherland through his intense literary enterprise, a legacy of honour.  She prayed God to grant his family, the nation, Africa and the world literary community the fortitude to bear the colossal loss.
