Eid-el-Fitr: Police to deploy over 2,000 personnel in Plateau

(NAN) The Police Command in Plateau will deploy 2, 089 officers and men to ensure a hitch free Eid-el-Fitr celebration in the state. ASP Ubah Ogaba, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Jos. According to him, the deployed personnel would also detect, prevent crime and ensure free flow of traffic.

He said that as measure to contain the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus, prayer at Eid grounds are banned, insisting that those to be held in mosques should not have more than 50 persons in attendance  “In order to ensure adequate security and safety of lives and property of citizens during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Plateau,

the Command will deploy 2,089 personnel to detect and prevent crime as well as control traffic. “Also, there will be no prayers on Eid grounds but Mosques where Eid Prayers will be observed should not have more than 50 worshippers. “Social distancing, use of hand sanitisers and wearing of face masks are compulsory for all and shall be enforced,”

he said. The PPRO said the command has banned the operation of tricycles (Keke napep) within Jos and Bukuru metropolis between May 23 and 24. Ogaba added that relaxation centres such as museums, zoo, wildlife parks, all social Joints and recreational centres in the state ramain closed He said ban on the sale and use of fireworks such as knockouts, bangers and other explosives is still in force, adding that violators would be made to face the full wrath of the law. The spokesman advised parents and guardians to counsel their children against indulging in drug abuse as well as other anti social and criminal activities during the festivity. Ogaba urged Plateau residents to be law abiding and reports any suspicious movements in their vicinities to the security agencies. (NAN)
