COVID-19: Proclamation No.4, 2020, Nasarawa State Bans Okada, Keke Till Further Notice

In an effort to stem the tide of the spread of COVID-19, save lives, reduce ill health and ensure that the fragile economy in which the people of Nasarawa State operate does not become weakened and stretched, the State Government had taken the following steps;

i. Restriction on human and vehicular movement and total lockdown of Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

ii. Curfew imposed in all Urban Areas of the State between the hours of 8:00pm and 6:00am daily shall continue.

Despite such steps taken to restrict movement into and within the State in an effort to prevent the entry or spread of COVID 19 into the State, it has come to the notice of the Government that Commercial Motorcycle Operators have continued to thwart the efforts of the Government to restrict movement of persons, especially persons entering the State from other States which have recorded cases of persons infected with the Corona Virus.

Hence, in line with powers conferred pursuant to Paragraph 7 of the Nasarawa State Dangerous Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulations 2020, it has become imperative to make the following further directives with effect from 8:00 pm on the 23rd of April 2020 till further notice, in order to protect the citizens of Nasarawa State;

There is hereby imposed a ban on all commercial motorcycles and tricycles (keke) in Nasarawa State.

The use of Private motorcycles is limited to one passenger only per motorcycle in other parts of the State not placed on total lockdown.

To that effect, all Security Personnel, Government functionaries and Traditional Rulers are to ensure full compliance with this further Proclamation.

Security patrols will remain intensified to ensure full compliance to this Proclamation, and all defaulters will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The issuance of this restriction remains necessary to protect the Citizens of the State from the possibility of contracting the disease from infiltrators and to minimize the potential for spread.
