COVID-19 lockdown: Ogun speaker donates food items to constituents

Mr Olakunle Oluomo, the Speaker, Ogun House of Assembly, has distributed food items to members of his constituency to cushion the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Oluomo, speaking to newsmen in Ifo, Ogun, on Friday in Abeokuta after the donation, noted that the lockdown was in the best interest of the citizens, saying it was the best way to avoid the spread of the COVID-19.

The speaker, representing Ifo 1 Ogun Constituency, explained that bags of rice were given to 17 Community Development Committees (CDCs) and some selected indigenes in Ifo area and the constituency as a whole.

He noted that other relevant groups also benefited from the gesture

Oluomo said that he had been able to take care of the aged and the vulnerable too in the distribution of food items.

The speaker added that though a committee comprising of major stakeholders was handling the distribution, he was able to give 1, 200 people a pack of food that would be enough for a day.

“If I cannot feed them every day, I am  happy I have God’s grace to support them during the lockdown. We have not stopped the distribution; it is still ongoing.

“Sincerely, I don’t  bother my head about people criticising my effort, because I know I have done my best in the circumstance according to my capability, I feel humbled by appreciation shown by some people,” he said.

The speaker appealed to rich people in various communities to help the needy, saying it should not be left alone to government or political office holders.

Oluomo appreciated Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s effort in ensuring that the stimulus package put in place reached the targeted people. (NAN)
