Kebbi Expends N2bn on Tuition Fees For Indigenes in 3 years
(NAN) Kebbi State Government has expended over N2 billion on registration and tuition fees for its indigenes studying in various higher institutions in the country.
The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Mukhtar Bunza, told newsmen on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi that the payments were made between 2015 and 2018.
Bunza briefed newsmen on the achievement of Gov. Atiku Bagudu in the education sector since the inception of his administration.
According to him, the commitment was in line with the state government’s effort towards transforming the education sector.
“From 2015 to 2016, the sum of N415,517,800 was paid to 16 higher institutions.
‘Equally, in 2016 to 2017, N876,717,482 was paid to 21 institutions.
“In the current session of 2017 to 2018, the sum of N900,087,529 was presented for approval to 31 institutions in the country,” he said.

The commissioner explained that the amount was spent to enhance higher education as a foundation for societal regeneration and restoration.
According to him, the state government sponsored 57 medical students comprising doctors, pharmacists and dentists on studies in India and Sudan this year.
The governor had also given approval for the ministry to train an additional 100 indigenes in China, India and Turkey in critical areas of the state needs.
‘They will be trained in Aeronautic Engineering, Railway Technology, Irrigation, Oil and Gas Storage, Transport, Mining, Electric and Automation,” he said. (NAN)
