Yobe Govt. Supports Flood Victims With Relief Materials



Yobe Government on Wednesday donated food and non-food items to 100 victims of flood disaster in Jajimaji, Karasuwa local government area of the state.

Alhaji Musa Jidawa, Permanent Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) presented the relief materials to the victims in Jajimaji.

The government provided 200 bags of rice, 100 bags of millet, 100 bags of sorghum and 100 Jeri cans of vegetable oil.

Others include 100 cartons of Spaghetti, 100 cartons of noodles, fairly used clothes and towels.

Jidawa said the relief materials were donated to provide the victims with immediate succor.

“In line with the mandate of providing emergency services to distressed persons, Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam issued approval for immediate deployment of the relief materials to the victims.

“Officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) were here few hours after the flood to assess the damage for immediate intervention, which brought about the donation of the relief materials to the victims,” Jidawa said.

He advised people of the state to avoid construction of structures along water ways, and to also clear drains to enable free flow of water.

The Council Chairman, Alhaji Ubaliyo Gambo commended the government for the quick intervention, saying.

He assured of equitable distribution of the relief materials to the victims, adding that the council had constituted a committee comprising of credible personalities to distribute the items.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that over 100 households were sacked by flood last Saturday following heavy down pour, sweeping away houses, farmland and animals. (NAN)
