Southern-Kaduna

Shiroro Local Government of Niger has engaged the services of 100 vigilantes to compliment the efforts of security agencies in flushing out cattle rustlers in the area.

The Vice Chairman of the council, Alhaji Ahmed Kuta, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kuta, headquarters of the local government, on Wednesday.

Kuta said that the residents of El-Kurebe, Alawu, Paki, Katu and Bassa wards in the area were mostly affected by activities of cattle rustlers.

He said the council in collaboration with security agencies had recovered and identified the rightful owners of over 1000 cows recovered from the rustlers.

He lauded the efforts of the security personnel deployed in the area and called on residents to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of all persons indulging in criminal activities.

The vice chairman said the council would continue to support security agencies in their efforts to maintain law and order in the area.

He appealed to traditional rulers to provide information about criminals in their domains to the nearest security outfits for prompt action.

“Security matters should not be left in the hands of security personnel alone,” Kuta said. (NAN)
