Buhari Inaugurates Economic Recovery Team

The Nigeria Economic Recovery and Growth Plan has formally launched by President Muhammadu Buhari.

It is aimed at not only taking the economy out of recession but also placing the country on the path of sustained, inclusive and diversified growth at a rate of at least 7 percent by the year 2020.

 

Court Discharges Justice Ademola

The FCT High Court has discharged and acquitted Justice Adeniyi Ademola of all the 18 counts brought against him.

Justice Jude Okeke in his judgments said the prosecutors did not have an iota of evidence linking the judge with the charges.

 

FCT Police Command Meet Stakholders

The FCT police command says it will uphold and enhance advocacy in its fight against crimes and criminality in the territory.

FCT Commissioner of Police Musa Kimo made this known during a meeting with the members of FCT eminent person’s forum in Abuja.

 

House Committee on Banking Oversight NEXIM

The House of Representatives Committee on banking and currency has extolled the efforts of the Nigerian Export Import Bank, NEXIM to live up to its mandate of enhancing export of made in Nigeria products and jobs creation.

The committee chairman, Jones Onyereri stated this during its oversight activity to NEXIM bank and one of the benefitting companies of its medium term facility of ₦1.2bn.

 

House Committee on Federal Character

The House Committee on Federal Character has observed discrepancies of staff appointment in some federal medical centers.

The chairman Ahmad Idris at an interactive session with heads of the centers observed with dismay of non-conformity with Nigeria’s established Federal Character Regime by the management of these institutions.

 

IGP Meets CPs

The police high command is to take some tough measures as part of new strategies to curb insecurity caused by armed militias, bandits and kidnappers across the country.

Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris who stated this at the meeting with senior officers from the rank of commissioners of police and above says they will henceforth establish more mobile police units and area commands.

It’s been reported that disarmament and quick response to distress calls top the agenda.

 

IGP Urges Nollywood To Fight Corruption

Inspect General of Police Ibrahim Idris has challenged members of the Nigerian Entertainment Industry to continue to use their trade to project the country’s cultural values and to support government in the fight against corruption.

Ibrahim Idris stated this while receiving members of The Voice of Change Nigeria in Abuja.

Reports show that the group comprises of Nollywood actors and actresses, musicians and student bodies.

 

Minister of Water on Professionalism In Governance

The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu has called on professionals at all levels to get involved in governance and be active in the affairs of the country.

The minister made this call when the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) paid him a courtesy visit.

Suleiman Adamu acknowledged that professionalism is a priority in the ministry as he explained that professionals are in charge of running of affairs of the ministry of water resources.

President of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, Omede Idris said that the fervent call of the association is institutionalization of continuous awareness, sensitization, care and management of water. At various levels of the programs, projects and activities of this critical ministry, professionals and professionalism should be involved.

He called on ministries, departments and agencies of government to encourage and engage Nigerian professionals, consultancy firms and companies in various works that require professionalism.

 

Navy on the Death Of Officer

Rear Admiral Teikumo Daniel Ikoli is dead. The navy hierarchy at the western naval command says investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances of the incident which occurred in the early hours of this Wednesday in Lagos.

A statement signed by Lieutenant Commander Chinwe Umar on behalf of the flag officer commanding western naval command, with caption “domestic accident involving a naval officer” says gunshots were heard in the vicinity where rear Admiral Ikoli resides in Apapa and after his room was opened, he was found dead.

The statement adds that the police has been invited and when investigations are concluded, an update will be given.

 

NNPC No Plans to Increase Petrol Price

Chief Operating Officer, Downstream Operations, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC Henry Ikem says there is no plan by the federal government or any of its agencies to review the pump price of petrol above n145 per litre.

Mr Ikem made the clarification in Abuja at a resolution meeting, Wednesday with top functionaries of NUPENG, petrol tanker drivers, Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners NARTO and House of Reps Committee Downstream.

The explanation became necessary following the recent increase in bridging allowance to transporters from n6.20 to n7.20 per litre which he said was achieved after an adjustment in what is referred to as lightering expenses and would not affect the pump price of petrol.

 

NOA/Amnesty Office Partner to Promote Agric Business In The Niger Delta

In a bid to redirect the Niger Delta youth towards more profitable ventures, the National Orientation Agency, NOA and the office of the presidential adviser on amnesty are partnering to promote agro-allied businesses in the Niger Delta Region.

While sealing the deal, the Director-General of the NOA, Garba Abari who stated that the agency is a willing partner in the task of creating awareness on agriculture in the region, advised the amnesty office to sustain its work in the region in order to achieve the federal government’s development goals for the region.

On his part, the Special Adviser to the President on amnesty, Paul Boroh hinted that the aim of the partnership is to make agriculture an occupation of choice for the people of the area.

He added that the amnesty office is working on a similar partnership with other relevant agencies of government.
