EDO STATE UNIVERSITY GETS APPROVAL FOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

The National Universities Commission has given approval to the Edo state University to run a college of medicine and many other programmes in the Institution. Vice Chancellor Professor Emmanuel Aluyor told correspondent David Aire that the University has one of the best  higher education facility in the Country.

DIRECTOR GENERAL OF NYSC VISITS YOBE CAMP

The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Suleiman Zakari Kazaure has pledged security to Corp members undergoing orientation exercise in Yobe state for the first time in six years.

Interacting with the Corp members, the Director General says reopening of a temporary camp in potiskum  town is a clear indication of return to normalcy after year’s insurgency.

IGP INAUGURATES INTERPOL i-24-7

Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris has inaugurated the upgraded Interpol i-24-7,internet twenty four hours in a week, that enables frontline officers checkmate criminal activities within and outside the country  real time. Edino Justice reports that INTERPOL National Central Bureau is located at the Force Headquarters.

MIN. OF NIGER DELTA AFFAIRS COLLABORATIVE MEETING

The wave of attacks on oil and gas instillation in the Niger Delta region has drawn the attention of stakeholders on the need to end crimes related to the sector. Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Usani Uguru Usani says the Ministry is optimistic of achieving zero tolerance on the matter with the determination of all concerned.

HOUSE COMMITTEE/DG VISITS NTA TV COLLEGE

The House of Representatives Committee on Information Ethics and National Orientation has expressed its commitment, determination and total support towards repositioning the NTA Television College Jos to meet the best standard. The members made this known on an oversight to the college. Yusuf Umar has details.

HOUSE OF REPS COMMEND NNPC

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC for a seamless supply of Petroleum products during the last yuletide and New Year festive period. This was during an interactive session with top management of the corporation in Abuja. The committee led by the Chairman, Joseph Akinlaja urged NNPC Management to continue to work hard and ensure uniformity in prices of Petroleum products.

Speaking  at the session NNPC GMD Makanti Baru, who was represented by the Chief Operating Officer Downstream Henry Ikem-Obih thanked members of the House Committee for their support to the corporation, assuring it that relevant government agencies would be alerted to take appropriate actions on the disparity noticed in products prices in parts of the country.

SENATE ON TETFUND

The Senate has stressed its determination to assist in creating Institutions that will develop qualified manpower that will facilitate transportation of goods and services worldwide. This was contained in a message of the President of the Senate at the opening of public hearing on Tertiary Institution and Tetfund for two maritime Universities presented on his behalf by Senate leader. National Assembly correspondent Waziri Zaiyanu has details.

FRSC ENFORCES SPEED LIMITING DEVICE

The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC says it is set for full enforcement of the installation of speed limiting device in commercial vehicles scheduled to begin nationwide on Wednesday. Spokesman of the Corps Bisi Kazeem told newsmen in Abuja that sector and field commands of the agency have been fully mobilized for the exercise with other security agencies on standby to provide security support.

He stated that mobile courts have also been set up nationwide for the purpose adding that defaulters will pay fines.

FRSC ENFORCES SPEED LIMITING DEVICE

Kazeem said that the high rate of involvement of commercial vehicles in road traffic crashes across the country informed the need to begin the enforcement with them. Citing FRSC statistics, he said that commercial vehicles accounted for over 50 percent of the total number of vehicles involved in road crashed in the country.
