Court Grants Bail to Children of late Akwa Ibom Teachers
A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Uyo the Akwa Ibom state Capital has granted bail to three members of the next of kin of late primary school teachers who were arrested on Monday in Uyo for protesting the refusal of the state government to pay them the entitlements of their late parents.
The court granted the accused bail in the sum of 200 thousand naira with one surety each in like sum after they were arraigned before the court on a three count charge of conspiracy to commit suicide, unlawful gathering, assault on a police officer and disturbing the peace of the Akwa Ibom state government house.
The accused who are Enobong Eshiet, Benson Benjamin and Utibe Okon pleaded not guilty to the charges brought before the court by the state Commissioner of Police .
After the proceedings, Defence Council, Mr. Agustin Asuquo said his clients were trying to meet up with the bail bond.
The case was adjourned to the twenty first of February for hearing.
It would be recalled that the Next of Kin of Late Primary School Teachers in Akwa Ibom state on Monday carried out a protested close to the Akwa Ibom State Government House in Uyo demanding the state government to pay the outstanding benefits of their late parents.
