NOTAP To Develop Industrial Technology For Raw Materials
(NAN) The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, NOTAP, is collaborating with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council to develop technology that will process local raw materials for industrial consumption and export.
The Director General, NOTAP, Dr. Muhammad Dan’zumi Ibrahim revealed this while speaking on Voice of Nigeria’s programme, In The News.
Dr. Ibrahim, who stressed the need for more collaboration between research institutes and private industries in the country, said government must come up with a deliberate policy on the influx of technology and raw materials into the country.
He said that “for any nation that is aspiring to became independent, any nation that is aspiring to became economically developed, we cannot fold our arms to allow technologies continuously coming into the system at the expense of our academic institutions.”
Dr. Ibrahim also explained that NOTAP is working with private industries, as part of their corporate social responsibility to upgrade laboratory facilities in research centres across the country.
“One of the industries that has recently keyed in, is PZ Nigeria Limited. It has committed the sum of N150m to upgrade three laboratories across the nation.
One at Modibbo Adama University Yola, which was commissioned about two months ago, the other one is National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, Zaria, NARICT, which is almost 95-96% completed, hopefully before the end of the year it will be commissioned.
The other one is University of Calabar which we feel is also around 90-95% completed. So hopefully before the end of the year or early next year, these three laboratories would be commissioned and be put to use to impact positively on the Research and Development efforts of our institutions,” Dr. Ibrahim stressed.
NOTAP was established to ensure the acceleration of Nigeria’s drive towards rapid technological revolution through efficient acquisition and absorption of foreign technology as well as proactive promotion of innovation.
