President Muhammadu Buhari has challenged the nation’s judiciary to remain in the forefront of his administration’s effort at securing the country and re-positioning the economy and eliminating waste and corruption for a better Nigeria.ntasummary, new CJN

The president threw the challenge while swearing in justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen as acting  chief justice of Nigeria, CJN in  line with the provisions of the nation’s constitution.

Court Of Appeal upholds Jegede’s Right of appeal

Still on the Ondo Governorship Election the three man panel of appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld Eyitayo Jegede’s right of appeal against judgment of Justice Okon Abang.

In a unanimous ruling the court dismissed the preliminary application of Biyi parole objecting to the righty of appeal of Eyitayo Jegede.

President Buhari On Maritime Security

Nigeria is to team up with other countries in strengthening maritime security as a deliberate measure towards stemming the theft of the nation’s crude through the Gulf of Guinea.

President Buhari stated this while exchanging views with the Executive Secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, Professor Florentine Ukonga who called on him.

The president also hosted the Papal Nuncio to Nigeria on a farewell visit.

Valedictory For CJN Muhammad

Meanwhile, the out-going chief justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed has called on the nation’s judiciary to remain committed to its constitutional duties, but also restore integrity in its courts through the implementation of its transparency and anti-corruption policy.

He made the call at the special valedictory court session held to mark his retirement as the chief justice of Nigeria.

Vice President Receives Russian Agaric Investors

Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo says foreign exchange constraints and availability of arable land in Nigeria make the case for improved local agricultural production in Nigeria an imperative, rather than continued importation with its significant pressure on dwindling foreign earnings of the country.

Vice president Yemi Osinbajo gave this explanation while receiving a Russian delegation led by the Russian minister of agriculture who is also the cochairman of the Nigeria- Russia Joint Commission, Alexander Tkachev.

While inviting Russian farmers to invest in the country, vice president Osinbajo said there are better Opportunities for economic cooperation between both Countries. The Russian minister of agriculture expressed his country’s willingness to enhance the existing trade relations with Nigeria. He observed that Nigeria- Russia trade volume as at the end of 2015 exceeded $300 million, but added that there are potentials for improvement in the years ahead.

Senate on Finance Committee Setback

Two reports of the committee on finance suffered setback at Senate plenary on Thursday.

The reports are those of the 2016 budget of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and that of the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority Act
