NMA Advocates Implementation of National Health Act
The Nigeria medical association (NMA) is calling on the various arms of government to implement the provisions of national health act 2014 and ensure adequate health budgeting in 2017 national budget to achieve universal health coverage.
This was at the 2016 annual physician’s week with the theme healthcare in the trail economy: challenges and way forward.
President Buhari Inaugurates Committee on North-East Initiative
A 21 man presidential committee on the north -east initiative has been inaugurated with a mandate to take urgent remedial measures to alleviate the conditions of the internally displaced persons in the region
president Muhammadu Buhari who performed the ceremony said the committee which will be the apex coordinating body for all interventions in the region is charged with responsibility of developing a strategy and implementation framework for rebuilding the north east.
The chairman of the committee General Theophilus Danjuma promised that members will perform their coordinating responsibility with professionalism, transparency and accountability.
IMF Delegation visits Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun
The federal government has assured the international monetary fund that there is no cause for alarm on Nigeria’s economy.
The minister of finance Kemi Adeosun minister gave the assurance while receiving the head of African department of the international monetary fund (IMF) Abebe Selassie.
This is the first time that the head of the African department of the international monetary fund IMF is visiting Nigeria and the reason is not far from recent policies by the Nigerian government to revive her economy.
The minister of finance Kemi Adeosun was on hand to provide the answers to questions posed by the team.
Kemi Adeosun was quick to inform the IMF that the era of Nigeria’s mono-economy stance is becoming history as the country is executing programmes to diversify.
This she said is what authorities are bent on, commencing with the implementation of the 2016 budget which focuses on capital expenditure to boost infrastructure and other key sectors of the economy.
IMF head of African department Abebe Salassie acknowledged the initiatives by the Nigerian government so far.
He disclosed that fact-finding visit is to reassure Nigeria of the IMF’s willingness to collaborate in areas that will ensure economic growth especially at this critical time in Nigeria’s economic history.
Minister of Environment Advocates Capacity building on Challenges of Oil Spill
The need for the development of capacity to deal with the challenges that are presented by oil spills in the marine’s environment has again been re-emphasized.
Minister of environment, Amina Mohammed reiterated this in her message to the national workshop on oil spill trajectory modeling in marine environment organized by national oil spill detection and response agency (NOSDRA)

Senate committee on science and technology continued its oversight function with a visit to the Sheda science and technology complex.
Chairman of the committee Prof. Ajayi Borofice commended the research effort of the complex which resulted in the development of anti-sickling drug for the treatment of sickle cell but wondered why awareness on the drug is not being created.

NCWS Commends Senate on Gender Bill
President of the nation council of women societies Mrs. Gloria Laraba Shoda has commended the senate for its commitment in passing the gender bill for a second reading.
It is a bill for an act to incorporate and enforce certain provision of the United Nations convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.
Mrs. Laraba who expressed joy at the news of the passage of the bill for second reading said the Nigeria senate has deemed it fit to cue behind advanced democracies to share up the status of woman in Nigeria
