VP At Legislature Anti Corruption Conference

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the fight against corruption cannot be won by just a few people but by the will and commitment of all Nigerians.

Speaking at a national conference on the role of the legislature in the fight against corruption organized by the National Assembly and the presidential advisory committee against corruption, the vice president said those given leadership role  must eschew corruption or risk creating chaos in society.

GMN: On Anti Corruption War

Still on anti-corruption, a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption, Professor Etannibi Alemika says the judiciary is not under attack but that only few alledged corrupt officers within the system are being subjected to the rule of law.

Professor Alemika was shedding light on the present administration’s anti-corruption war in the judiciary on NTA’S Programme Good Morning Nigeria.

Justice Ademola Withdraws From Dasuki Case

Meanwhile, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court Abuja, who was among judicial officers recently arrested by the Department of State Services, over alleged corruption, has withdrawn from the trial of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.

Justice Ademola announced his decision to withdraw from the case before the court today, hinging the reason for his action on the allegations of corruption leveled against him by the DSS, which is the prosecution in the case.

The Department of State Services had on October 7 raided Ademola’s house, and arrested him as it claimed that huge sums of money including foreign currencies were found in his possession.

Prison Decongestion

The FCT High Court is to set up a judicial panel of inquiry consisting of judges and other stakeholders in the justice sector, to review cases of awaiting trial with a view to fast tracking their timely disposal.

The chief judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Ishaq Bello who stated this in Abuja, during a visit to Kuje Medium Security Prison, frowned at the snail-speed at which prosecutors handle their cases, contrary to the provisions of the 2015 criminal justice act.
