Nigeria Military To Sustain Operations In Lagos, Ogun states

The military has said it will continue to comb the creeks of Arepo and Ishawo area of Ogun and Lagos States for pipeline vandals and oil thieves breaking the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipelines.

The Coordinator of the Joint Military Task Force operating in the areas and Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Ferguson Bobai said the military was waiting for the governments of both states to open up the creeks to enable the military go in and destroy millions of jerry cans filled with fuel, lying inside the creeks of Arepo and Ishawo.

The military had in July, embarked on an operation to clear Arepo of vandals, destroying several strongholds of the vandals and rooting them out from the area.

Admiral Bobai spoke while presenting a brand new 14-seater bus to the Naval Ratings Wives Association, explained that the Nigerian Navy had commenced several welfare initiatives to ensure that troops fighting in the Niger Delta and other troubled spots around the country concentrate and carry out their constitutional roles.


The Naval officer who gave an insight into what the navy was doing to keep the fighting force intact, noted that several welfare needs of the troops were being addressed by the Naval Headquarters, including the issue of accommodation and other things to keep their families comfortable.

He explained that the presentation was in line with the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ette Ibas’ goal to ensure that the welfare needs of personnel are addressed.

According to him, “it was in realization of the Chief of Naval Staff’s mission which encapsulates the issue of welfare, we have done a lot for the officers and now the Chief of Naval Staff is shifting attention to ratings.

You will recall that some of the boats and vehicles were commissioned. This bus is one of the vehicles commissioned, and the Chief decided to buy one for the ratings’ wives.”

The Flag Officer Commmanding said that the Nigerian Navy hierarchy had embarked on many other projects that would enable the officers and soldiers concentrate on their duties, adding that a new sports complex was coming up in the Nigerian Navy town, Ojo and that more accommodation was being built for ratings.
