Update On PDP Convention As Court Sacks Modu Sheriff
The Ahmed Makarfi led Peoples Democratic Party; PDP has ratified the tenure extension of its current National Caretaker Committee with not more than 13 persons as members for a period of 12 months.
This decision followed the party’s inability to conduct elections into its National Offices.
The Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt venue of the much publicized national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP was sealed off by the Police this morning preventing delegates access.
The members of the Ahmed Makarfi led faction of the party organizers of the convention however relocated to the PDP Secretariat Port-Harcourt reiterating that the federal high court sitting in Port Harcourt gave them the go ahead to hold the convention.
The National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party inaugurated the National Executive Council of the party pending when a proper convention will be conducted to elect National Officers.
The NEC is made up of the BOT, all Governors of the Party and all State Chairmen.
The convention ratified the extension of the Ahmed Makarfi Executive by another six months.
Reports in Port Harcourt show that the entrances to the Sharks Stadium were barricaded by the Nigeria Police on the order of Police authorities to avoid a breakdown of law and order given the two conflicting Federal High Court orders.
A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt presided over by Justice Ibrahim Watila had given a comprehensive order for the PDP to proceed with the convention as scheduled without hindrance.
Meanwhile, the FCT High Court presided over by Justice Ogbonna in a declaratory judgement has nullified the appointment of Alhaji Modu Sheriff as PDP Chairman and sacked him from office.
Justice Ogbonna described it as height of impunity for Sheriff to have been parading himself as PDP Chairman.
The Judge nullified all action he took in the name of PDP from the day Justice Ashi nullified the amendment to the PDP constitution upon which he was appointed.
