Soroptimist Empowers Nigerian Women and Girls
An Abuja-based non-governmental organization under the auspices of soroptimist international is empowering women and girls with formal education and vocational skills.
The group has earmarked the sum of four million naira for this project, in the federal capital territory abuja for the next two years.
This was during decoration of the fourteenth president of the organization and dinner organized to raise funds for the project.
Alleviating the plight of the poor especially women and girls in rural communities is a major concern for these philanthropists who have over the years under the umbrella of soroptimist international availed their time and resources to achieve the common goal.
This dinner by the group is a change of insignia to decorate the 14th president of the organization and raise funds to carry out projects to better the lives of women and girls.
The new President, Mrs. Gloria Bai who noted that no nation thrives if women are neglected in policy and decision making stated that her team would consolidate on projects by past presidents to ensure continuity to support women and girls in the FCT.
Among other good spirited individuals with like passion for the initiative of soroptimist international are some management staff of the Nigerian television authority, NTA and the Australian High commissioner Mr. Paul Lehmann.
Mr. Lehmann says the Australian government’s support for Nigeria in the area of empowering women and girls was a means of sharing common values.
Soroptimist international was established in 1989 and is run predominantly by women with various empowerment programs in education, health and other areas for women and girls in Nigerian communities.
Their activities also provide protection from all forms of violence and child trafficking, for the target groups.
