June 12 Election Annulment

Today marks the 23rd year of June 12, Presidential election which was later annulled by the Military.

The election which was believed to have been won by late Mko Abiola has continued to be described as the foundation of Nigeria’s contemporary democratic evolution.

The June 12, 1993 presidential election means different things to many people in Nigeria to some extent, it was the freest and fairest election in the country.

As a result, its annulment is regarded as an abridgement of the collective will of Nigerians.

There are others who also argue that the election was inconclusive and that the process that led to it was not free and fair.

Mass Retirement of Officers in Army

The Nigerian Army council has approved the retirement of some senior officers.

A statement by the acting director, army public relations, Colonel Sani Usman revealed that a number of senior Officers in the ranks of Major general, Brigadier general, colonel, lt. Colonel and one major are affected.

Their retirement according to the statement was based on service exigencies and partisanship in the 2015 general elections as revealed in the outcome of the investigations including the presidential committee investigating defense contracts and arraignment of some officers by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The statement further stated that the military will remain apolitical and professional at all times.

Army Test fires Artillery for Deployment

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army is strengthening its equipment and infrastructure base to meet current realities to deal with threats to the stability of the nation in parts of the country.

This followed the operational tour of the chief of army staff lt. General Tukur Buratai to the Nigerian Army School of artillery Kachia, Kaduna State.

Kano Empowerment Prog

Kano State government is creating three thousand, six hundred and forty jobs in the first phase of its mass economic empowerment program. Governor Abdullahi  Umar Ganduje  said this during the presentation of empowerment package to five hundred and twenty women and youths in Kano.

Burial of Amodu Shuaibu

The remains of four-time coach of the super eagles Amodu Shuaibu who died early Saturday in Benin have been laid to rest in his country home at Okpella, Edo State.

 President Muhammadu Buhari in tweet mourns Amodu Shuaibu says this is indeed a sad week for Nigerian football.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has described the death of the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation and former coach of the super eagles, Amodu Shuaibu, as shocking.
Prof Osinbajo said with the death of Shuaibu just days after the death of former player and coach, Stephen Keshi, Nigeria has lost yet another dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly to bring honour to Nigeria.

The Vice-President added that he led the National team to two world cup tournaments and answered the call to serve as national coach on a number of occasions.
He added that Shuaibu’s life was dedicated to finding and grooming some of Nigeria’s best soccer talents and providing them the leadership and guidance that enabled them to excel.
Professor Osinbajo further said Amodu Shuaibu’s work as national coach of Nigeria’s national team brought gladness to the nation and fulfilment to many.

Senate President Mourns Amodu Shuiabu

Senate President Bukola Saraki has expressed grief over the death of former super eagles coach Amodu Shuaibu describing it as another loss in the sporting family and the nation at large.

A statement from the office of the Senate President says the incident coming so soon after the country lost another sports hero Stephen Keshi is indeed very sad.

He commiserated with the immediate family of the late technical director, the Nigerian sports community and the country over the irreparable loss.

Dogara Mourns Amodu’s Death

Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has condoled with the nation over the sudden death of  Amodu Shuaibu.

A statement by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan, said Dogara described the late former super eagles coach as a true nationalist who dedicated his lifetime to serving his Country.

He lamented that Nigerian Football is under trial as a result of sudden death of  Amodu as he died when the country is still reeling from the demise of his colleague, Stephen Keshi.

He said Amodu’s demise would forever remain painful as it came when the nation’s football is in dire need of his experience for reforms.

The speaker prayed that may God grants the Nation and his Family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Siasia on Amodu Shuaibu

Coach of the national under-23 team Samson Siasia has described the death of Amodu Shuaibu  as a big loss to the Nation.

Siasia who spoke to NTA upon hearing of the demise of his former coach said Amodu’s death on the heels of Keshi’s untimely exit is a morale dampener as the nation grapples to reposition the sports sector for better results.

Nigerians React to Amodu Shuaibu’s Death

Nigerians and football fans across the African continent and beyond have been expressing shock and disbelief over the death of Amodu Shuaibu days after that of another ex-super eagles coach, Stephen Keshi.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, said it is shocking that Amodu Shaibu, four time super eagles coach and NFF technical director, has passed on just a few days after Stephen Keshi died.

Among those who took to tweeter were former Nigerian International and ex-super eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh. He described the news of Amodu’s death as devastating and horrible.

Information Minister at AMAA 2016

The Federal Government has again restated it’s commitment towards energizing the creative industry for a vibrant role in revamping the nation’s economy. Information and culture minister Lai Mohammed stated this at the 12th Africa movie academy award ceremony in Port-Harcourt Rivers State.

Islamic scholars have condemned the recent attack on one Francis Emmanuel in Kaduna for eating in the day time during Ramadan fast.

Austin Anyebe says the Islamic clerics said the attack was unislamic.

Mrs. Buhari breaks fast with former first ladies

In the meantime, the wife of the President Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has hosted former first ladies of Nigeria to a breaking of fast in the spirit of Ramadan.

NTA, FRSC Von 11th Annual Ramadan Lecture

As Ramadan enters its 7th day, Muslims have been advised to stop all vices that run contrary to Allah’s injunctions.

The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State council of traditional rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar gave the advice at the NTA, FRSC and von 11th annual Ramadan lecture in Kaduna.

He observed that many lessons are to be learnt after the Ramadan fast as Muslims are expected to love humanity and strengthen their faith in Allah.

Nigeria Bar Association on Judiciary Autonomy

The need for autonomy of the judiciary to strengthen its role as the custodian of the constitution has been re-echoed by stakeholders at the annual chief judge of the federal capital territory lecture.

Aliyu Tukur says the lecture was organized by the Nigerian Bar Association, gwagwalada branch.
