EFCC Arraigns Alleged Fraudster for N9m Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Monday 16, 2016 arraigned one Bisi Lillian Olagunju before Justice Munta Abimbola of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, on a three count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence.
Bisi, who allegedly claimed to be a Special Adviser to an Urban and Rural Development Committee Chairman of the National Assembly, was arrested and charged sequel to a petition from one Abiodun Julius alleging that he paid her the total sum of N9,000, 000:00 (Nine million naira) in tranches to help him secure a job for his brother at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and also facilitate contracts for the supply of computers to the National Assembly.
One of the counts reads:
“That you Bisi Lillian Olagunju sometime in November 2015 at Ibadan within the Ibadan Judicial Division with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N5, 000,000.00 (Five Million Nara) from one Abiodun Julius under the false pretense that money represented part payment to secure a contract for the supply of computers to the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and which pretence you knew was false”.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
Justice Abimbola granted her bail in the sum of N10, 000, 000: 00 (Ten million naira) and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction and must have sufficient evidence of ownership of properties to be verified by the EFCC. The accused person must also deposit her International Passport with the court Registrar.
Trial date was fixed for the 13th and 14th of June, 2016.
