The governing All Progressives Congress says it has no regrets or any apology what so ever regarding the way and manner the fight against Corruption is being prosecuted by the Buhari administration.

National Chairman of the party chief John Odigie Oyegun stated this while speaking to newsmen after a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Working Committee of the APC

Chief Oyegun said, his party is not interested in a one-party state, according to him, the nation needs a constructive opposition.

“The APC is not in any way apologetic. We promised change and there is a lot of rot in the system. This must be cleansed and whoever and whatever ox is being gored, where ever the tree is going to fall, so, let it be.

“We must get use to the fact that in the process of cleansing this nation, there is going to be a lot of bullet to bite.

“The APC has not been in office at national level in the last 10 to 16 years. So, the issue of whether somebody is PDP or not PDP does not arise. We have a nation to cleanse. The president has committed himself to that and we should support it whatever way it comes. We are not being apologetic about that at all.

“It has nothing to do with witch-hunting. It just happened that the dramatist personel of the period all happened to be on one side of the political divide. We have absolutely no intention to pressurise any group or any nation towards a one-party state. It is not in our interest so to do because we need a vibrant opposition.

“We need an opposition that will contribute constructively to national discourse, that will make us sit up and deliver to the people what we promised. But the task is enormous and if anybody is ready to help to discharge these responsibilities, he is most welcomed.”

Commenting on the just concluded governorship election in Bayelsa State, Odigie-Oyegun said that the party regretted the bloodshed that was witnessed. He said APC had a lot of reservations on the final result, and they will examine the issues critically and come out with a position soon.

He said, “We are going to examine what has come out very carefully and decide the next line of action”

While also speaking on the Kogi election, the National Chairman said that as far as the party was concerned, the issue was over.

According to him the issues emanating from the election are currently before the courts with about six petitions, saying the party will leave the courts to decide on them.

Reacting on the purpose of the meeting, Odigie-Oyegun said the NWC members came to brief president Buhari on the state of the party, the current challenges and the 78 elections that the APC will be taking part in arising from court actions following the national elections.

President also briefed them on the state of the nation and the work the administration is doing in the face of intense challenges, Oyegun stated.

“We are going away fulfilled, happy that government has substantially blocked the leakages in the system. There is still a lot to be done and we are looking forward to the early passage of the budget so that full implementation will begin,”
