Nigeria Has Recorded Over 700,000 Internally Displaced Persons As A result of Natural Disasters and Insurgency

Quite a number of factors are responsible for the increasing number of internally displaced persons in Nigeria. They range from natural disasters like flood to man made activities such as insurgency and internal communal clashes.
Approximate Data of over 700 thousand internally displaced persons are said to be recorded in Nigeria with quite a number of others not even known.
Emergency Agencies are however saying that though the figure is high, they are not overwhelmed.
This was disclosed by representatives of the agencies while featuring on NTA’s Programme Good morning Nigeria
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA said the unsettled nature of the displaced persons and providing locations are its major challenges, while the National Commission for Migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons believes that a national policy targeted at displaced persons will go a long way in addressing their plight.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society, a strategic partner in emergency response management called for strengthening of synergy among collaborating agencies.
The stakeholders called on Nigerians to team up with emergency management agencies, stressing that emergency and response management is a call to duty on all and sundry.
