SGF on Diaspora

The Diaspora community is now being recognised as a major source of poverty reduction and economic growth for their home countries. According to a world bank report of 2012, Nigeria received about 21 Billon US Dollars in remittances from diasporic activities. But there is an absence of framework that will guide Diasporan policies and harmonize their contributions to the Country.

To this end, a technical committee is being constituted to develop a comprehensive and workable document that is in line with global best practices. Members of the technical group are the National Volunteer Service Force who are representatives drawn from different Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The Committee is expected to come up with a National Diaspora Policy within three months.
