NAF Preliminary Investigation Report
Findings of a Preliminary Investigation into the crashed Nigerian Air Force helicopter which occurred at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Port Harcourt has been released.
The team of safety and engineering investigators who assessed the accident said it might have occurred as a result of a ‘tail rotor systems failure’ in the helicopter. The report further states that the engines and the gear box of the helicopter which had flown one thousand nine hundred and eight hours before the accident were in good serviceable condition at the time of the accident.
It bears repeating that sequel to the accident, the Chief of Air Staff immediately directed the grounding of the entire Mi-35P and Mi-24B helicopter fleet and ordered immediate investigations into their serviceability status.
